April 27: Area @Bridgemill Athletic Club

The girls golf team was back in action today for the Area Tournament, hosted by Woodstock HS at Bridgemill Athletic Club. It was a pretentious week as coaches kept an eye on the forecasted weather and ultimately made the decision to try and play. With up to 100% chance of rain at times and predicted thunderstorms, everyone was pleasantly surprised to get pop-up rain showers on a few holes and even some sunshine to go along with Georgia humidity. The course was in great condition given the amount of rain that had fallen earlier in the week. The Lady Longhorns played tough and maintained poise throughout the day as the conditions changed. In the end, the girls successfully defended their Area championship and qualified for the state tournament in May! Lambert will also be joined in the state tournament by region competitor South Forsyth. Senior Christine McDonnell highlighted the day with an EAGLE on her final hole resulting in earning low medalist for the event.

The only event of the week for the Lady Longhorns was a quad-match against Alpharetta, Cambridge, & Centennial. This was the final home match at Laurel Springs and our 3 seniors were honored for their contributions to the program. A light rain wore off after the ceremony and it turned out to be a great day for golf. The seniors led the way in scoring which was fitting as this match concludes the regular season, with the Area tournament on the horizon next week. The girls will be out at Bridgemill Athletic Club on Monday for a practice round and Thursday for the main event. The top 5 teams from Area will go on to the state tournament May 22-23 @Chateau Elan. SENIOR DAY FESTIVITIES!!!

Alison Crenshaw is the daughter of Selena & Michael Crenshaw. She has been a member of the Lambert Golf program since her freshman year. She will be attending Daytona State in Daytona Beach, Florida, next year to continue her golf career. Alison's personal motivation is "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as you work for the Lord". Alison's favorite club is her putter, her favorite athlete is Julio Jones, and if she had to sing karaoke, it would have to be a Taylor Swift song.

Coach Josh Sagel: "Alison works hard, always has something positive to say, and has one heckuva work ethic. She is going to be a force in college and in life."

Coach Stephen Pate: "Alison has a lot of innate abilities. She chooses no to rely on these and instead works extremely hard to do her best at whatever challenge she faces. I'm looking forward to seeing what she will accomplish as she moves forward."

Loren Kim is the daughter of Karen & Tony Kim. She has been a member of the Lambert Golf program since her freshman year. She will be attending Berry College in Rome, Georgia, next year to continue her golf career. Loren's favorite club is her driver, favorite restaurant is Maggianos, and would love for Rickie Fowler to be her caddie for the day.

Coach Stephen Pate: "Loren is really funny. It's important to note that is not the only thing which she excels. Loren is incredibly hard working and driven. Those are qualities I will choose to remember about her. She is so easy to root for and I have no doubt she will be successful as a result of the combination of those traits."

Mrs. Nicole McAllister: "Today Loren told me she was so excited about tomorrow. I asked her what was happening tomorrow, assuming it had something to do with prom or graduation. Instead, she said that she was excited to present her Forensics presentation on HH Holmes. Loren's enthusiasm is one of the many things that makes teaching her such a joy. My wish is for Loren to never lose her curiosity and love of learning!"

Christine McDonnell is the daughter of Maureen & Bob McDonnell. She has been a member of the Lambert Golf program since her freshman year. She will be attending the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, next year to continue her golf career. Christine's personal motivation is "Do what others won't now, so you can do what others can't later." Christine's favorite club is her 9 iron or driver, favorite candy is anything sour, and she would love for Jordan Speith to be her caddie of the day.

Coach Jeff Teeple: "Christine is one of the hardest working students I have had the pleasure of teaching, not only here at LHS, but over my 18 years in education. Christine is not only an amazing student, but she is an even better young woman. I cannot wait to see what she will accomplish at the Naval Academy and throughout her life!"

April 12: Tri-Match vs. Walton & Alpharetta

The Lady Longhorns hosted Walton & Alpharetta for a tri-match at Laurel Springs Golf Club. It was a cool afternoon and the girls played 1 hole until it started raining. Within 10 minutes, everyone had to be carted in due to a single flash of lightning/clap of thunder. By the time all the players were carted in, the pop-up storm had already moved through. Everyone was carted back out to their holes and play resumed. It turned out to be a nice, overcast day and the weather allowed for the match to finish up without too much of a delay. April 11: Golden Lion Invite @Laurel Springs

The Lady Longhorns competed in the St. Pius Golden Lion Invite hosted at Laurel Springs. This was an 18-hole scramble event. Each pair chose a faculty member to be their caddy/scorekeeper/bunker raker/flag puller/moral supporter/cart driver etc. for the event. It is very special to see the impact that each of these teachers has had on our golf team members plus the Lambert student body in the classroom. This is just one small way that our girls can say thanks to these wonderful mentors!

This was the second time Lambert played this course this season, and the scores reflected their knowledge of the greens. Scores were kept in the traditional format and the modified Stableford system. Spirit Night Update

The Lambert Women's Golf team hosted a community Spirit Night at the local Black Diamond Grill. Located at the intersection of 141 and Sharon Road, this restaurant is well-known throughout the Forsyth community. Owner Terry Hanley is an arduous supporter of local sports and activities, and customers speak very highly of his efforts over the years to give back. The event coincided with basketball on tv and team trivia, and it was great to see Lambert families and friends out at dinner. Black Diamond Grill had a packed house, and the night was a success! Thank you to everyone who came out and dined to support the women's golf team! The money raised will go toward future team expenses (area & state tournament fees).

Thank you again Terry Hanley for positively impacting your community. Everyone needs to stop by and grab lunch/dinner!

March 11: Warrior Spring Swing @Mossy Creek (White County)

The Lady Longhorns were back in action today at the 10th annual Warrior Spring Swing. The tournament was hosted by White County and played at Mossy Creek Golf Course. The course played short for the girls with a distance of 4700 yards. The weather held off and most of the day was quite enjoyable, with only a few patches of rain at the conclusion of the event. The girls brought home 1st place and low medalist honors. The team score of 222 outlasted Union County and Columbus (249) by 27 strokes; those 2 teams sent their #1 back onto the course for a playoff to determine 2nd & 3rd place. The tournament only awarded low medalist to 1 individual, and all 3 Lambert girls tied with 74. The tournament director then surveyed their scores on the toughest hole, which the all parred. They then used scores from the 2nd hardest hole to make the decision, in which Kate birdied while Alison & Christine parred. All in all, it was a good day for the girls and they adjusted quickly to how the course was playing.

Kate Owens: 74 (low medalist overall due to tie-breaker)

March 4: West Hall Invitational @Chateau Elan

The Lady Longhorns were back in action this weekend @Chateau Elan for the West Hall Invitational.  The girls were able to see some of the top individual and team competitors in the state of Georgia for the upcoming season. It also gave our girls a chance to play on the Woodlands course which will be used for the 7A State Championship in late May. Temperatures were chilly which resulted in a 1-hour frost delay, and it took the competitors a few holes to truly adjust to the conditions. By the afternoon, the sun was shining and our girls were settling into a groove on the back 9.

The Lady Longhorns defended their team title again this year by outlasting stiff competition from Mill Creek, beating the Gwinnett rival by only 3 strokes. Lambert was led by All-Tournament team selection Kate Owens (78). Seniors Alison Crenshaw, Loren Kim, & Christine McDonnell also had good afternoons to secure the top spot. The team has a competitive tournament and match schedule for the rest of the season, with the hope of being ready to defend the championship at the end of the season!

February 25: Buford Invite @Bear's Best

First tournament of the year. It had been incredibly warm temperatures during the week leading up to the weekend. Temperatures for the event were in the low 60's with 20-25mph wind gusts! The format of the Buford Invite was a 2-team best ball...meaning most schools had 4 girls divided into 2 teams of 2. Each girl would play the hole and the lower of the scores goes toward the total. Bear's Best was a beautiful course and we got to see some of the top teams from every classification.

(Morgan Boutwell, Christine McDonnell, Alison Crenshaw, & Rachel Burrell)

After 18 holes of golf and some tedious waiting while schools turned in scorecards...the Lady Longhorns came away with the 1st place trophy. Christine McDonnell & Rachel Burrell scored a 78, while Alison Crenshaw & Morgan Boutwell scored a 77, which gave Lambert a team score of 155. They were 8 strokes ahead of 2nd/3rd place Dalton & White County. Three schools had pairs score an impressive 75 given the conditions for the day, but their 2nd scores were not low enough to beat Lambert. What a great way to start the season! Thank you parents for your support and braving the conditions. Please enjoy some pictures from our celebration at Bear's Best!
